MISSIONS & INSTRUMENTATION

Geophysical instruments provide an effective means to non-destructively study planetary interiors. Our group participates in ongoing development of spacecraft instrumentation, and also works on concepts for future geophysics missions.

EnVision VenSAR

VenSAR is a synthetic aperture radar instrument that will fly onboard ESA's EnVision mission. We are helping with the instrument's radiometric calibration and developing strategies to increase the likelihood of detection of potentially ongoing volcanic activity through simulations of radar and radiometry returns from Venus' surface.

Venus seismology

Our group was involved in the development of a high-temperature seismic sensor capable of operating under Venus conditions. We work with seismic wave propagation models to estimate ground motion on Venus that a future seismic station would need to measure in order to learn more about the interior structure and seismic sources.
